Much like when shards of glass are dropped into water and their outline gradually disappears, this chair has a similar effect in the rain.
The chair is made from a massive block of glass that is crafted by special techniques, and is the same material with cutting reflex plate used in giant observatory telescopes.
Undertaken in February 2002 and installed in 2003, “Chair that disappears in the rain” was designed for Roppongi Hills Streetscape Project. A group of eleven designers from around the world including Mr. Ron Arad, Mr. Ettore Sottsass, and Mr. Gijs Bakker, have collaborated to form this project.
Permanently Displayed at Roppongi 6 chome (Keyakizaka St.) Tokyo,
